In response to the Island’s changing needs, EKISTICS was commissioned to envision a companion village to Snug Cove on the Island’s west side.
Anchored by a pedestrian-oriented, mixed-use neighbourhood crossroads, the village design establishes a series of clustered neighbourhoods offering a range of housing choice from urban townhomes to waterfront estate properties. A ‘Campus-of-Care,’ offering a spectrum of age-in-place living arrangements, from independent retirement living to assisted living and fully-supported congregate care, is positioned within the village terrace adjacent neighbourhood shops, services, public parks and gardens.
Employing detailed conservation planning, the Village at the Cape provides an extensive network of forested pathways celebrating the land’s significant natural and recreational features. The comprehensive park plan is designed both to protect the land’s environmental values while providing public access to its spectacular natural setting. Reflecting an integrated approach to complete community design, the Village at the Cape establishes an important precedent for sustainability on Bowen that reconciles the often-complex issues involved in development on the Island.
