The Sanctuary Kunming

Nestled into the ecologically significant Dianchi Wetlands, The Sanctuary is low density residential community that celebrates the riparian environment by being sensitively integrated into the natural environment. The site is divided into two sectors by a public road along which a small town center is sited. On either side of this civic core, a series of low density neighbourhoods were constructed that front onto the wetlands. The landscape of the surrounding wetland is extended throughout the neighbourhood structure to provide a green necklace that celebrates the unique and spectacular character of the existing environment.
