Mariah Wong joined EKISTICS in May 2016 as a part-time Summer Intern supporting our Canadian Planning + Design Team. Since that time, she has continued to grow in her role and responsibilities to become a valued member of our studio, known for her hard work, sense of humour and amazing hair! In August 2017, following the completion of a Bachelors Degree in Geography (Env. Specialty) + SIS Certificate at SFU, we are happy to announce that Mariah was appointed as a full-time Planning Technician with the Canada Planning + Design Team. We are very pleased to have her as part of the team (every day of the week!) and look forward to her continued growth and success at EKISTICS! Let’s get to know her a little better…
Q: Describe EKISTICS in 3 words?
Engaging. Dynamic. Integrative.
Q: What has working at EKISTICS taught you?
The value of an updated GIS System!
Q: How many tabs do you have open on your desktop right now and what are they?
18 tabs. Yikes! I went down a research rabbit hole. To name a few: Archived papers from 1995, Provincial Park management plans, open data portals, BBC News, and the new Gucci Mane album.
Q: What’s a favourite part of your role?
Finding the missing piece of the puzzle when researching.
Q: One thing very few people know about you?
I have a T-rex shaped birthmark.
Q: What’s the best thing about working at EKISTICS? The people, hands-down. Working with a skilled, experienced team is important but add passion to the equation and that is the optimal formula for great work. And that’s what you get here. You learn very quickly that it’s not just about getting the job done – it’s about getting it done right and then some. That’s important to me, so it’s nice to be in an environment that harnesses that.
