From its beginning, the vision for Wilden was a straightforward one: to craft the finest residential community possible. In 2000, EKISTICS completed the planning and design of the Glenmore Highlands Area Structure Plan with the City of Kelowna, establishing a framework for a new hillside community of 2800 homes that would accommodate future growth in a way that was environmentally responsive, socially diverse and economically viable.
Extending over 1350 acres of rugged terrain, EKISTICS led a multi-disciplinary design team in the master planning of the Wilden community. Through an extensive public consultation with residents, stakeholder groups, the Client and City, the designs worked with principles of environmental-driven design to create a livable community that integrates the site’s significant natural features in a way reflective of an authentic sense of place.
Clustered within six neighbourhoods, homes in Wilden are organized around local gathering parks and trail networks. Gently winding, narrow roads carefully navigate the rugged topography, constructed to minimize disruption of the natural setting. Over 1000 acres within Wilden are dedicated to the protection of natural areas and the provision of recreational opportunities. The resulting community provides a diversity of residential homes, neighbourhood facilities, parks and urban villages supported by a network of streets and trails tailored to the Okanagan hillside.
Nature at your doorstep: the defining quality of the Wilden community. Throughout its planning and implementation, this has remained true. Honoured with over 50 Thompson Okanagan Housing Awards, Wilden is an extraordinary hillside community whose design sets a new benchmark for living in concert with nature.
